Cheesy bread is the item that quietly outsells most pizzas as an add-on, and the reason is straightforward: it's the good part of a pizza without the parts people negotiate over. No sauce debates, no topping arguments, just bread and melted cheese cut into strips.
The loaded version adds a topping across the whole surface. Bacon is the popular default — smoky, salty, and it crisps in the oven. Jalapeño is the better choice if you want the richness broken up; the vinegar and heat cut through the cheese in a way that stops the whole thing being one-note by the fourth strip.
How it differs from bread twists
Twists are bread. This is bread as a vehicle for cheese. Cheesy bread has roughly twice the calories per portion and a much heavier mouthfeel. Both are good; they're doing different jobs. If you're already ordering a cheese-heavy pizza, twists are the more sensible companion.
Ordering notes
Well done is worth requesting. Cheesy bread benefits enormously from extra oven time — the cheese browns and develops those crisp, chewy patches at the edges that are the best part of the whole item. Underbaked cheesy bread is pale and slightly gluey.
Ranch is the most-ordered dip for it, though marinara is the better pairing in our view. The acidity does the same job the jalapeños do, and it's a more interesting contrast than more dairy on top of dairy.
Practical warning
This does not travel well over long distances. The cheese sets as it cools and the bread underneath softens from trapped steam. If you're more than twenty minutes from your store, it's worth having the oven ready to crisp it back up for five minutes.
